Lt. Gen. Lamba to head Army Training Command

NEW DELHI: On the 19th Raising Anniversary of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), Lieutenant General A.S. Lamba, took over as its 15th General Officer Commanding-in-Chief.

A graduate of the National Defence Academy, he was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery in June 1971. He has vast experience of conventional warfare and unconventional counter-insurgency operations, having participated in the 1971 India-Pakistan war, and having served at almost all fronts. He also served in Nagaland, in Manipur and in Sri Lanka with the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF), a Defence Ministry release said.

The General is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), the Higher Command Course and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the United Kingdom, in 2003.

Operation Parakram

General Lamba’s varied assignments include the command of an Infantry Brigade in counter insurgency and later in Operation Parakram , and the command of 16 Infantry Division on the Western Border and the elite 21 Strike Corps in central India.

His staff tenures include Brigade Major in the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) and the northeast, Colonel Administration and Brigade General Staff in the Eastern Theatre and appointments at Army Headquarters which include Deputy Director-General, Additional Director-General Operational Logistics and Deputy Director-General Strategic Planning in Perspective Planning Directorates.

He was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2004, received the Chief of Army Staff Commendation on two occasions and the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief’s Commendation.

His civil qualifications include MBA, MA in International Affairs from King’s College London, MSc and M Phil in Defence and Management Studies.

Gen. Lamba belongs to the elite PARA fraternity and is Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Artillery.
