New Delhi: As the final phase of work at the upcoming railway station at Anand Vihar in East Delhi nears completion, senior officials associated with the project have indicated that one platform would be made operational before Diwali itself. The station will act as an originating point for several trains coming from East India and is expected to ease the pressure considerably from New Delhi station. Railways would take up the last phase of the work between October 9 and 12 when it will link the station with the main tracks and finish the vital signalling work. Several passenger and suburban trains will remain cancelled during this period. “We are hopeful of opening one platform before the Diwali,” said an official. The Rs 240-crore station project is expected to handle over three lakh passengers daily and as many as 270 trains when it is fully operational. In all, the station terminal will have seven platforms and a state-of-art coach maintenance yard. The entire complex is spread over 42 acres and will have modern amenities including ATM and foreign exchange counters and a touch-screen inquiry system. -- PTI
