Manavjit wins gold

NEW DELHI: World champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu shot the trap gold with a score of 140 out of 150 in the Asian Clay Shooting championship at Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Friday.

It was an impressive performance by Manavjit, as he pipped the former world champion Khaled Al Mudhaf of Kuwait by three points.

Manavjit made the final in an impressive fashion with a 121 out 125, following rounds of 22, 24, 25, 25 and 25. In the final, in which shots are made with a single barrel, Manav shot a 19 out of 25. The Kuwaiti shot a 20 in the final, but had made only a 117 in the qualification. Mansher Singh won the bronze with a 134, following a 21 in the final. The Indian team, with Anwer Sultan (109) as the third member, won the silver.

In women’s skeet, Arti Singh won the silver, with a 90 out of 100, one point behind Zhang Shan of China.

In fact, Arti had a three-point lead over the Chinese prior to the final, but Zhang Shan fired a brilliant 24 in the final to snatch the gold.

In women’s trap, Shagun Chowdhary finished fourth with a total of 82 out of 100.
