HYDERABAD: Competition Commission of India (CCI) Chairman Dhanendra Kumar has stressed the need for expediting notification of all sections of the Competition Commission Act for bringing about the results anticipated from legislation. Notification of all sections would provide necessary momentum to ensure that the Act is implemented in its letter and spirit. This would also help in encouraging competition and ensure safeguards against cartelisation. Mr. Kumar was here to deliver the keynote address at a seminar on ‘Competition laws – development of trade and industry’ organised by Babul Reddy Foundation in collaboration with the CCI. Supreme Court Judge Justice Altamas Kabir stressed the need for CCI to take up advocacy on promoting competition as it would ensure quality services to people at competitive prices. He said the perspective of law makers had changed ever since the legislation on competition was enacted and the focus was now on encouraging competition unlike controlling monopoly as was seen during the last few years. The existing Monopoly and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) would see its sunset eventually and it was for the CCI to deal with the “fairly new area” that required expertise of professionals. Competition Appellate Tribunal of India Chairman Justice Arijit Pasayat said there was close relation between CCI authorities and the central banks. Babul Reddy Foundation Chairman Justice M.N. Rao welcomed the gathering and foundation managing trustee P. Prabhakar Reddy also spoke.
