Damaged roads to be restored on war-footing

HYDERABAD: Restoration of flood-damaged national, State highways and mandal main roads will be taken up on a war-footing by the Roads and Buildings Department.
R&B Minister Galla Aruna Kumari who was in the US, instructed engineers to take up restoration work immediately for free traffic movement. She also stated in a release that five Engineers-in-Chief were appointed as supervisory officers to flood hit Kurnool, Mahbubnagar, Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts. The officials said that NHAI officers were rushed to supervise restoration works on the damaged NH-7 near Pebbair between Kurnool and Hyderabad. Contractors KMC and ILFS were being directed to plug the breach the bridge near Tungabhadra.
The officials said that about 2,261 km of roads were damaged due to heavy rains and floods and an estimated Rs.27.5 crore for temporary repairs and Rs.341 crore for permanent repairs would be required. The loss due to damaged roads was yet to be assessed.
