Granite worth Rs. 6 lakh seized

KRISHNAGIRI: Granite blocks worth Rs. 6 lakh were seized by District Revenue Officer (in-charge) A. Shanmugasundaram, here, in the early hours of Sunday.
Mr. Shanmugasundaram told The Hindu that around 1 a.m. on Sunday, he spotted two lorries carrying huge granite blocks on Royakottai Road, near Jakkeri village, 6 km from Denkanikottai.
Absconded
While the driver and cleaner of one lorry were taken into custody, the other lorry’s driver fled from the scene abandoning the vehicle.
On information, Hosur Revenue Divisional Officer P. Rathinavel and Denkanikottai Tahsilhar Rajan reached the spot with police force.
The lorries were handed over to the Kelamangalam Police.
The granite blocks were being transported to an unknown destination from PKS granite quarry near Denkanikottai. Revenue officials raided the quarry on Sunday.
