Shimla: The 162nd foundation day of Lawrence School, Sanawar, located near the hill station of Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh, was celebrated on Sunday with former students, including Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla, attending the function. CEC Chawla, who studied in the school from 1953 to 1961, was the chief guest on the concluding day of the two-day function. Also among distinguished guests was Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who was bestowed ‘Sanawarian achiever of the year award, 2009’, school spokesman R. S. Chauhan said. In his speech, Mr. Chawla said, “many important principles in my life were imbibed over those years and have hopefully stood me in good stead.” He also announced to sponsor two prizes for students of class 11th and 12th for the best essay written by a student on the life and work of Mahatama Gandhi. Both Mr. Chawla and Mr. Abdullah took a round of the school with headmaster Praveen Vasisht and others to relive the memories of their days in the school.
