PEP TALK: L.J. Iqbal Singh, Lt. Governor of Puducherry, addressing the concluding session of 22nd Rashtrabasha Sammelan in Kodaikanal on Sunday. KODAIKANAL: Research to trace the links of Kodaikanal with freedom struggle should be done immediately as it has strong links with freedom struggle. It is high time to bring those links to the light, according to L.J. Iqbal Singh, Lt. Governor of Puducherry. He was addressing the concluding session of 22nd Rashtrabasha Sammelan here on Sunday. Some of the freedom fighters, who survived the Jallianwalabagh massacre, were imprisoned in Kodaikanal only. Later, the historians had forgotten it. Those links should be restored. Research should show how important the Kodaikanal is, he added. “One day, Kodaikanal will become a most important place in India.” In his special address, Rashtriya Hindi Academy National Chairman Swadesh Bharati said Tamil works should be translated into Indian and major seven foreign languages, including English, French, German, Japanese, Chinese and Slovak languages. This work could be done either by Hindi Academy or Hindi Prachar Sabha or an independent commission or an academy should be constituted by the state government to execute this work. Poet Bharati’s house in Madurai should be renovated and a museum set up, he appealed. In his address, ex-MP Ratnakar Pandey said there should not be politics on propagation of Indian languages, including Hindi. Although Mr. Karunanidhi does not know Hindi, he is a the lover of Hindi and the Home Minister is the chairman of Rashtra Basha Department. At a resolution passed at the conference, it appealed to the Central Government to make the UN to recognise Hindi before 2010. Writer and translator Sourirajan was honoured with Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi award. Language writers in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka, and 80 Hindi officers in government and PSUs were honoured.
