SALEM: The shopkeepers in the commercial complex belonging to the Fort Mariamman Temple here continued their protest for the fourth day on Friday urging the temple administration not to vacate them from the complex. The administration had decided to demolish the 18 shops, which were damaged, and construct new ones. It had asked the shopkeepers to vacate the shops to carry out construction works. Shopkeepers downed their shutters on October 6, saying they were ready to construct the shops by themselves and donate them to the temple. But the temple administration should allow them to continue to run their shops after the construction. The administration should provide an alternative place for their shops till construction was over. The agitators also submitted a petition to the district administration.
