India, Nepal to launch joint operation in border areas


To check circulation of fake Indian currency notes and criminal activities


Maharajganj: In a bid to put a curb activities of anti-national elements and circulation of fake Indian currency notes (FICN), India and Nepal would be launching a joint operation in the border areas.

“Both India and Nepal will be launching a joint operation in bordering areas after Deepawali to check circulation of FICN and activities of anti-social elements,” District Magistrate V.K. Srivastava said after a meeting with officials of Nepal on Friday.

As a confidence building measure, both countries have decided to swap criminals wanted in connection with criminals cases, he said.

The said meeting was attended by officers of district administration, police, SSB, Army, custom, immigration and other departments of both the nations.

Mr. Srivastava said that the meeting discussed solving problems mutually and identification of citizenship during border movements and strengthening of internal security of both countries.

Chief District Officer Rupandehi district of Nepal Nagendra Jha said that close relationship between India and Nepal would be maintained at all cost and added, “Criminals often cross the border after committing crime. This practise would be stopped.” Mahrajganj Superintendent of Police Ram Swaroop said that border pass would resolve problems cropping up due to new transit arrangements. -- PTI
