Praise for Rukhsana

Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR: President Pratibha Patil on Friday met Rukhsana, the 22-year-old who snatched a militant’s rifle and killed him at her home on September 27.

Ms. Rukhsana told The Hindu over telephone from Rajouri that she met the President in Dak Bungalow. “It was a nice meeting and she praised my courage,” she said. The President also gave her a souvenir in recognition of her valour. “I told the President that my message to young girls of the State is that they should stand against terrorism so that their honour and dignity is not harmed,” Ms. Rukhsana said, adding that her action had been received well throughout the country.

She replied in the negative when asked whether the President offered her a job.
