He was last seen on video footage of a bank’s ATM centre withdrawing 250 dollars HYDERABAD: Family members of Indian student Rayadurgam Srinivas, a Hyderabadi who disappeared nine days ago in Auckland, New Zealand, appealed to the Indian Government to persuade the New Zealand police to trace him. Twenty-three-year-old Srinivas from Mettuguda was pursuing diploma in arts in Auckland University of Technology after completing degree in hotel management here. He was living there at Mt. Albert with his sister Padma Priya and brother-in-law Nagesh. On October 1, he left for college but did not return home. He was last seen on video footage of a bank’s ATM centre withdrawing 250 dollars. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Srinivas’ father, R. Chakrapani, said he was worried about his son’s safety as the Auckland police could not make any headway in the investigation. “With no leads available so far, we are suspecting if racists were behind his disappearance,” his family members apprehended. Srinivas was working as a part-time chef to pay for his studies. A day after he went missing, a cyclist found his wallet, a shoe without lace and mobile phone lying on roadside near Westhaven Marina, St. Mary’s Bay. His jacket and backpack were found floating in the water. The local police searched the harbour area with divers but could not trace the student. Investigation by local police reportedly revealed that his bank account and mobile phone had not been used after his disappearance. There were no signs in the video footage suggesting that he was forced to withdraw money from the ATM centre. “I pray the almighty ensures my son’s safety. But I plead with the Indian Government officials to pressurise their counterparts in New Zealand to trace him,” Mr. Chakrapani said.
