National Library to have modern facilities
Ananya Dutta
KOLKATA: Plans for the modernisation and restoration of India’s largest library here, the National Library, have been put in place. The institution will boast state-of-the art facilities, officials said on Friday.
“After the process of shifting more than 2.5 million books from the heritage building was completed last month, the modernisation of the library has been put in place,” said Director of the library K. K. Banerjee.
The modernisation started nearly four years ago when the modern building was inaugurated. It got an impetus last year when the Union Ministry of Culture sanctioned Rs.10 crore towards the same, Mr. Banerjee said.
“An additional Rs.2.5 crore has been allotted for the renovation of the original building, which will be carried out by the Archaeological Survey of India,” he added.
