TIRUCHI: The newly-formed Tiruchi Travel Federation, a representative body of airlines, travel and hospitality industries to promote tourism and allied industries in Tiruchi region, has planned to host a ‘travel mart’ here in November/December. Leading air operators, travel agencies and tourism boards of countries such as Singapore, Malaysia and Maldives would participate in the fair. The federation was formally inaugurated in the city by Transport Minister K.N. Nehru on Saturday. The federation’s website is www.ttf.co.in was launched by Collector T.Soundiah. The federation has also planned to organise a tourism marathon, within the next couple of months, and a food festival at Mukkombu, a picnic spot near Tiruchi, in January. A tourism quiz would also be organised soon. According to T.H. Radhakrishnan, president of the federation and Station Manager, Air India, Tiruchi, the federation has planned to make the travel mart an annual event.V. Vasudevan, Managing Director, Sangam Hotels, stressed the need for the tourism/hospitality industry to offer a variety of products to attract tourists. M.S. Ashraf, President, Indian Medical Association, Tiruchi, stressed the need for promoting a clean image of the city. K. Chandrakumar, Managing Director, Kavery Medical Centre, made a presentation on the scope for medical tourism in the city. K.N. Sekaran, MLA, S. Sujatha, Mayor, M. Anbazhagan, Deputy Mayor and K. Meena, Principal, Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College participated.
