A tale of revenge and injustice film review

Vairam

Vairam, directed by M.A. Nishad, portrays the anguish and trauma of a young couple over the untimely death of their only child.

Sivarajan (Pasupathy) is a bank manager in Pollachi who leads a contended life with his wife Devi (Meera Vasudev), a homemaker, and daughter, Vairamani, fondly called Manikutty (Dhanya Mary).

Brutal murder

However, their happiness is shortlived, as Manikutty is one days found raped and killed under mysterious circumstances.

Sivarajan takes revenge by killing the offender (Jayasurya).

He is arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder.

Annie Jacob (Samvrita), a reporter of a leading magazine, follows the leads in the murder case and with the assistance of lawyer Ravi Varma (Suresh Gopi) finds that the police erred in their investigation.

On the orders of the High Court, the case is re-investigated by the Crime Branch headed by Thomas Eeraly (Mukesh).

Stark reminder

The film depicts how even murder culprits manage to get away with the assistance of corrupt police officers.

Pasupathy and Meera Vasudev steal the show with their stellar performance. Jayasurya too excels in his role.

Suresh Gopi, Mukesh, Thilakan, KPAC Lalitha, Harisree Asokan, Samvritha Sunil and Asokan do justice to their roles.

Idyllic environs

Sanjeev Shankar captures some idyllic environs on the camera. ‘Venilavu,’ a lullaby written by Girish

Puthencherry and tuned by M. Jayachandran, is notable.

The screenplay is by Cheriyan Kalpakavady.

Vairam is produced by N. Shiv Rao.
