Demand to place VC of KVAFSU under suspension

Staff Correspondent

‘This will ensure impartial probe into irregularities’

BIDAR: Shobhavathi Phulare, member of the Board of Management of the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU), Bidar, on Wednesday asked Governor H.R. Bhardwaj and the State Government to place Vice-Chancellor of the university Suresh S. Honnappagol under suspension to ensure conduct of “impartial” investigation into alleged irregularities in promotion of teachers under the Career Advancement Scheme, among others.

In a press release here, Ms. Phulare said: “It would not be fair to allow Mr. Honnappagol to continue in the post of Vice-Chancellor as he is facing allegations of misappropriation of funds, irregularities in issue of tender notifications and violations in filling backlog posts, among others.”

Ms. Phulare said that continuation of Mr. Honnappgol as Vice-Chancellor would hamper investigation undertaken by Rajneeh Goel, Regional Commissioner of Gulbarga division, into promotion of teachers in the university.

She feared that Mr. Honnappagol would “tamper with the evidence” and destroy the evidences.

Accusing Mr. Honnappagol of violating rules governing the KVAFSU, Ms. Phulare said, the former had exerted “pressure” on members of Board of Management of the university to raise their hands to get approvals for the agendas placed in the board meetings.

It is learnt that the university would be filling vacant posts of non-teaching staff soon. But the appointments to the non-teaching posts should not happen when Mr. Honnappagol is the Vice-Chancellor as he was facing charges of “irregularities”, she said.

Functioning of the university had gone “wayward” in the recent days, she said and added it was time that attention of the Governor and the State Government was drawn into the affairs of the KVASFU.

In order to maintain transparency in the functioning of the university, she requested Mr. Bhardwaj to place Mr. Honnappagol and other officials allegedly involved in committing “irregularities,” under suspension and pave the way for an impartial investigation.
