CUDDALORE: Vice-Chancellor of Annamalai University M.Ramanathan has said that there is an imperative need to set up more universities to cope with the youth population in the country. By 2015, India will have the highest youth population in the world. Distance education mode could also be employed to provide higher education, Mr. Ramanathan said. He was speaking at the “Lions Quest teacher training workshop” organised by the Lions Clubs International (District 324-A3) on the university premises at Chidambaram. Mr. Ramanathan said the issue was discussed in last month’s vice-chancellors’ conference. Statistics revealed that there were 40 crore youths in India and of them only 10 crore were into higher education. Increased youth population would provide dynamic workforce which in turn would bolster economy. He called for preserving culture through providing moral education. V.Rathinasabapathy, Lions district governor, G.Adhi Lakshmi, past district governor, K.Thirumali, workshop coordinator, participated.
