Optimist Coastal sailing championship

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Sailing Association and the National Optimist Association of India will conduct the National Optimist Coastal sailing championship here from October 15 to 20.

The tournament will start with practice races on the first day which will be followed by 12 races in the individual category and a team racing event over the next four days. The last day would be set aside as a reserve day.

While Niveditha Ravivarman of TNSA will be back to defend her title in the girls’ category, Aman Vyaz (NSS Bhopal), the second runner-up in the last edition, will be the person to beat in the boys’ section.

Praveen Prabhakaran and Rufus Patrick who have enjoyed a productive season will be in the hunt as well. Apart from Chennai, sailing clubs from Mumbai, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Pune will take part in the event. — Sports Reporter
