North Zone gains lead

VISAKHAPATNAM: North Zone gained the lead over South Zone in the last round-robin match but the latter started well its second innings in a bid to force a draw in the ACA inter-zone (Ranji selection) tournament for the Venkatagiri Cup at the Zinc stadium here on Wednesday.

North resuming at 44 for no loss, made 288 for seven in its first innings in the allotted 90 overs, for a 157-run lead.

At close on the second day of the three-day match, South had made 75 for no loss.

The scores: South Zone 131 and 75 for no loss in 22 overs (A. Rakesh 35, Seshavalli 32) vs. North Zone 288 for seven in 90 overs (R. Krishna Murthy 58, A.S.K. Varma 43, K. Naga Gangadhar 49, V. Abraham 30 n.o., Khaza Moinuddin three for 67). — Special Correspondent
