“Take active part in social service activities”

Volunteers from 10 colleges participate in training camp

PUDUKOTTAI: The day long district-level training camp conducted by the Youth Red Cross of H. H. The Rajah’s College here on Sunday for the volunteers of Youth Red Cross in Pudukottai district evoked good response as a large number of volunteers from 10 colleges turned up for the camp and got special training.

J. Raja Mohamed, honorary secretary of Pudukottai District Red Cross Society, who inaugurated the camp, spoke about the yeoman services rendered to the society by the International Red Cross and also in India.

He said that the volunteers of the Red Cross Society were doing a great service to the affected people in the war zone and also to the others by helping them during calamity and natural disasters like tsunami.

Objectives

M. Chidambaranathan, Principal of H. H. The Rajah’s College, who presided over the function, explained the features and objectives of the camp.

S. Viswanathan, district convenor of Youth Red Cross, wanted the volunteers to take active part in the social service activities especially during the time of natural disasters like floods, cyclone and tsunami and also to help the people in the war-affected areas.

G. Edwin provided special training on first aid methods, stressed on the need for blood donation, to the volunteers, who took active part in the camp.

Stella Mose, a HIV-affected woman shared her views with the volunteers and stressed the need for self-confidence for leading a long life and pointed out that she had been working as an advisor in the HIV-affected persons welfare centre.

V. K. Bhoominathan, Head, Department of Commerce, Bishop Heber College, Tiruchi, S. Chinnappa, president of Pudukottai district Red Cross Society spoke.

Certificates were distributed to the trainees at the function.
