Job scheme: protest against use of machinery

KOLAR: Several labourers employed under the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme were injured during a protest at Matnalli village in Sugatur gram panchayat limits in Kolar taluk on Wednesday.

The workers were protesting against the use of machinery for works under the job scheme.

On learning about the use of machinery, the workers came to the spot around midnight and questioned the authorities.

A scuffle ensued in which several workers, including two women, were injured, according to the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) taluk secretary T.M. Venkatesh.

Gowramma, who was seriously injured, has been admitted to the Sri Narasimha Raja District Hospital here.

The workers staged a protest in front of the zilla panchayat office here on Thursday demanding that action against officers responsible for the use of machinery which was against the job scheme guidelines.
