Sofia to host Anand’s match

NEW DELHI: Sofia has gained the right to host the 2010 World chess championship match between challenger Veselin Topalov and World champion Viswanathan Anand from April 5 to 24. This was decided at the 80th FIDE Congress at Halkidiki, Greece on Friday.

The decks were cleared for Sofia after Turkey and Singapore withdrew their bids.

The FIDE also confirmed the Grandmaster title of R.R. Laxman, besides certifying K. Priyadharshan and Vidit Gujarathi as International Masters and Shalmali Gagare as Woman International Master.
