Colombian band performs in Chennai as part of cultural week

“We want Indians to know about Colombia and its strong cultural background”


CHENNAI: Colombian band Chocquibtown, which has been nominated for Grammy 2009 will perform in Chennai on October 23 as part of the 2nd Cultural Week of Colombia in India. While the band would perform in Delhi and Chennai, poets interaction would be held in Delhi and Kolkata, Alejandro Pelaez, First Secretary (Commercial), Embassy of Columbia in Delhi, said here recently.

The band’s programme in Chennai would be held at 7.30 p.m. at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha in T. Nagar. Invitations for the event would be sent to Salsa clubs and passes could be collected from the Alliance Francaise in Chennai.

“We want Indians to know about Colombia and its strong cultural background. We have a Spanish heritage in language as well as architecture,” he said. He said that Colombia was the second largest market for Indian companies in Latin America and a total of 19 companies, including Tata Consultancy Services and Hero Honda have made investments in that country. “We are looking for investments in various areas including IT BPO, cosmetics, bio-fuels, hospitality sector, petrochemical and mining,” he said.
