Thirukalyana utsavam from Oct. 27

KUMBAKONAM: Thirukalyana utsavam will be held for 12 days at Sri Venkatachalapathiswamy Temple at Oppiliappan Koil near Kumbakonam from October 27.

Cultural programmes and religious discourses, vocal, harikatha, veena and violin recitals and bharathanatyam will be performed.

Legend has it that Oppiliappan married Sri Boomidevi on Thiruvonam coming in the Tamil month of Aippasi.

Thirukalyanam is celebrated from Aippasi Thiruvonam for twelve days. The festival is conducted with donations from devotees and patronage given by musicians. Donors sponsor the cultural programmes. Devotees can contribute donations either through money order, demand draft or cheques to Assistant Commissioner/ Executive Officer, Sri Venkatachalapathiswamy Temple, Oppiliappan Koil, 612 204, according to a press release.
