CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Sunday unveiled a new Police Memorial at the office of the Director General of Police (DGP) office, to commemorate the police personnel who laid down their lives while discharging duty.
DGP K.P. Jain and senior police officers attended the function The granite memorial sculpted by A.V. Elango depicts the role of the police personnel in protecting the society from criminal and anti-national forces.

A press release from the DGP office said the Police Commemoration Day was celebrated every year on October 21.
The history of commemoration dates back to October 21, 1959, when a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol party, led by sub-inspector Karam Singh, was ambushed by Chinese Forces at Hot Springs.
Ten jawans were killed in the incident.
The Chief Minister also presented a memento to Mr. Elango.
