HYDERABAD: A 23-year-old woman, D. Jyothi, ‘committed’ suicide by hanging at her house in HUDA Colony in Chandanagar on Saturday. While Jyothi’s parents alleged that she took the drastic step due to harassment by her husband Mahesh demanding more dowry, the police said the exact reasons behind her death were yet to be ascertained as Mahesh went into a coma and was kept under observation at a private hospital in Kukatpally. No responseThe incident came to light after Jyothi did not respond to Mahesh’s calls when he repeatedly knocked the door on Saturday morning. Sensing something suspicious, he peeped through the bedroom window and found that she was hanging to the ceiling fan, said Chandanagar Sub-Inspector M. Saideswar. He said a case of dowry death under Section 304 (B) was registered based on a complaint lodged by her parents. Jyothi was married to Mahesh, a software engineer, in 2008. Patient attackedA 30-year-old man was taken into custody by the Afzalgunj police on Sunday for inflicting stab injuries on his brother-in-law at Osmania General Hospital (OGH). Yadagiri attacked his brother-in-law, Rajesh, for allegedly harassing his sister Vijaya for additional dowry. Rajesh and Vijaya quarrelled over the same issue on Sunday and in a fit of rage she attempted suicide by setting herself ablaze. Her husband also suffered burns while trying to rescue her. The neighbours shifted the couple to OGH. After learning about the incident, Yadagiri came to the hospital and attacked Rajesh with a knife. Security guards immediately caught Yadagiri and handed him over to the police. The condition of the couple, residents of Ramanthapur, is stable.
