Lecture series at NIT-C comes to an end

KOZHIKODE: A host of personalities took part in the lecture series organised at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C) here as part of Tathva’ 09, the annual techno-management festival of the institution.

The former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam inaugurated the lecture series on October 15. Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) Executive Director K.V. Jayakumar delivered a talk on ‘80/20 Principles to Techno Management’ on October 16. Dr. Jayakumar was earlier the Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Warangal, Andhra Pradesh.

A video-conference with Archana Sharma, staff physicist at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva, was held on October 18. Dr. Sharma, the only Indian physicist on the permanent staff of CERN, is working on ‘detector development’ for experiments at the Large Hadron Collider. Dr. Sharma dwelled on concepts, designs and constructions of small prototypes, stressing on what advancements in science and technology could do for India by 2020.

Dean (International Relations) and Electrical Engineering Professor at IIT Bombay Subhasis Chaudhari delivered a talk on October 19. He is a recipient of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (2004) and the J.C. Bose National Fellowship (2008). He spoke about the recent advances in computer vision.

The last lecture in the series was by K.M. Abraham on October 20. Dr. Abraham, an Indian Administrative Service officer, is an M.Tech. in Industrial Management from IIT, Kanpur.
