State behind in food processing

Staff Correspondent

Chitradurga: Principal Secretary, Agriculture Department, R. Suresh has regretted that despite producing 10 per cent of the total horticultural produce in the country, Karnataka is still not in a position to process this food to add value.

“In order to lay stress on food processing, the governments are offering financial benefits to entrepreneurs who wish to set up food processing units,” he told presspersons on Wednesday.

Mr. Suresh said the State Government was offering a 25 per cent subsidy on start-up equipment used in the establishment of such units. For establishment of food parks, the governments were ready to offer subsidy up to Rs. 4 crore, he added.
