Five killed in road accident

KANCHIKACHERLA (Krishna dist.): Five persons, including a woman, were killed on the spot when a Tata Indica car was hit by a water tanker near Siva Sai Kshetram here on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred when the car, which was being driven by P. Gangadhar, 50, was on its way to Vijayawada from Nandigama.

In a bid to give way to the lorry coming in the opposite direction, the driver lost control and hit a 50-year-old Katta Lakshmikantham, who was rearing cattle in the nearby farm fields, and overturned.

The woman, all the three persons in the vehicle and the driver died on the spot. The three persons were identified as K. Venkataramana, K. Harikrishna and B. Pavan Kumar, all aged between 35 and 40 years and working with Kotak Mahindra Bank.

The trio are believed to have gone to Nandigama for recovering a loan and the accident was due to the negligence of the car driver, according to the police.
