‘Tathva’ begins at NIT-C

AUSPICIOUS START: Suhas Gopinath, CEO of Global Inc., inaugurating Tathva’09 at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, on Thursday.

Kozhikode: Tathva’09, the annual techno-management fete organised by the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, was inaugurated by Suhas Gopinath, IT entrepreneur, on Thursday.

Over 1,500 students from 100 colleges across India have registered for events at the festival. The event, scheduled from October 23 to October 25, has a wide spectrum of technical events.

Mr. Gopinath, the 23-year-old CEO of Global Inc., founded his company at the age of 14 in San Jose, U.S. His company offers IT consulting solutions in 11 countries. Mr. Gopinath exhorted the students to become entrepreneurs and employment generators in a country like India with a huge manpower pool. Mr. Gopinath said he was shifting focus to research and development work for developing intelligent web applications which are intuitive and able to grasp the semantics of web searches.

G.R.C. Reddy, director of NIT-C presided over the function. Felicitation was offered by Bernd Fitzner, K. Saseendran, dean in charge of student affairs and Jose Mathew, convenor of Tathva ‘09.

At a press briefing at NIT-C, Mr. Reddy said that the NIT council meeting, chaired by Union Minister for Human Resources Development Kapil Sibal at New Delhi on Wednesday, appointed a committee to study the possibility of revamping admission to NITs.

Mr. Reddy said that this was prompted by the fact that 50 per cent of the toppers in CBSE examinations are girls, but they account for only 10 per cent of the enrolment at NITs. The directors of NITs at Calicut, Ahmedabad and Agartala will be members of the committee. Another committee was also appointed to revise the curriculum at NITs to make engineering and other courses inter-disciplinary in nature.
