‘Licences issued as per norms’

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Minister for Communications and Information Technology A. Raja has maintained that telecom licences were issued strictly as per the new telecom policy and TRAI guidelines.

Talking to The Hindu on Thursday, Mr. Raja said, “Even the empowered-Group of Ministers, which recently okayed the auction route for issuing 3G spectrum, has ratified issuance of 2G licences and spectrum as per the guidelines and as per the rates decided in 2001.”

Addressing journalists late in the night, Mr. Raja ruled out resigning in the wake of the CBI raid. He said nowhere had the CBI pointed out that he had a role in the spectrum allotment.
