‘APIIC earmarked 5,000 acres for setting up solar power farms at Kadiri’ BHEL to set up solar PV manufacturing unit at Fab City HYDERABAD: Solar power farms with an investment of Rs.3,000 crore are proposed to be set up at Kadiri in Anantapur district by four companies, including two from the United States. This was stated on Thursday by B.P. Acharya, Chairman and Managing Director, Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) during a panel discussion on “Rising opportunities for solar/PV in India” organised by SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International). SEMI in partnership with India Semiconductor Association (ISA) and Fab City is organising a three-day SOLARCON India 2009 in city from November 11. During the event, MoUs were expected to be signed with California-based AES Solar, Lanco Solar, US-based Sunborne and Titan energy Systems which were offered land. Draft policyHe said APIIC had earmarked 5,000 acres for setting up solar power farms at Kadiri. To give a fillip to the sector, the State Government had prepared a draft policy and was awaiting the Centre’s Solar Energy Mission to be unveiled on November 14. He said that BHEL also planned to set up a solar PV manufacturing unit at Fab City on the outskirts of Hyderabad . He announced that SOLARCON would henceforth be an annual event in the city on the lines of Bio-Asia. During the event, an Excellence Award would be given to Eicke Webber, founder of the prestigious Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, Hamburg, Germany. Giving details of plans to collaborate with Fraunhofer Institute, Praveen from AP Invest, who visited Hamburg and held talks with the Institute authorities, said that they had responded positively to proposals to establish a certification centre, a training facility and an R & D Centre at the Fab City. An MoU was likely to be signed during Solarcon. Sankar Rao, MD, Titan Energy Systems, S.S.N. Prasad, vice-president, Solar Semiconductors and Sathya Prasad, President Semi India spoke.
