Pokkisham for film festival

CHENNAI: Cheran-starrer Pokkisham, a period film set in early 1970s, has been selected for the Mumbai International Film Festival.

The film, in which Padmapriya pairs up with him, is about love, where the two main characters are bound by a passion for Tamil literature. The film will be screened as part of ‘Indian Film Showcase,’ which will have 14 Indian films in the section.

For Cheran, who is also the director of the movie, the recognition could not have come at a better time.

“There have been some criticism about the film and its commercial failure has affected me a lot. This entry into a prestigious film festival is certainly a big morale booster,” he said.

The film has drawn mixed responses – critical acclamations for its brilliant portrayal of a love story sans crude romance and criticisms for long and dreary solo scenes. The director-actor has sent the film to half a dozen international film festivals. “I had put in a lot of effort to make this movie, which I strongly believe is a new venture in Tamil film industry. Our team made sure the period film has a lot of details to make it more authentic.”
