Woman cheated of chain

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A woman was relieved of her five-sovereign chain by a suspect who misguided her to a private hospital where he promised to include her in the government’s health insurance scheme for the poor.

According to police sources, the unidentified man told Kasthuri (75) of Choolaimedu that her name could be included in the list of beneficiaries if she came with him to a hospital in Chetpet. Believing him, the woman went there. On reaching the place, the suspect told Kasthuri to remove her jewellery and pose for a photograph as the identity card could be prepared.

He took the jewellery and asked her to go to the bathroom for a face wash. When Kasthuri came out, the accused was missing. Hospital staff told her that there was no exercise of giving identity cards for government’s health insurance scheme on the premises.

The Chetpet police are investigating, the sources added.
