Girl kidnapped, released

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Unidentified persons kidnapped an electrical contractor’s three-year-old daughter at Kailashnagar of Sanathnagar demanding Rs. 70,000 ransom but set her free within hours as police launched a hunt for them.

Sana was playing outside her house when she was abducted around 8 a.m. Even as her father, M.J. Baig, and other family members started searching, the abductors rang him up demanding Rs. 70,000.

Baig went to the specified location carrying the money and approached the S.R. Nagar police as he did not find his daughter there.

Special teams

Police formed special teams and started looking for the girl even as the kidnappers made two more calls. All the phone calls were made from coin box landline phones, S.R. Nagar Inspector Pratap told reporters.

Around 11.30 a.m., a burqa-clad woman came to the lane of Baig’s house, left the girl and went away. Police suspect the contractor’s relatives or persons known to him in the incident.
