BCs’ body opposes APHC land auction

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh State Backward Classes’ Welfare Association has demanded AP Housing Corporation (APHC) to stop auction of government lands scheduled to be held from October 26 to 30.

Instead of constructing houses for the poor and middle class families the housing corporation was acting as a realtor, president of the association R. Krishnaiah alleged in a press release here on Sunday.

The corporation already had deposits hundreds of crores of rupees seeking construction of houses by the poor and middle class. But, by neglecting its responsibility the corporation was planning auctions of lands in about 16 locations including in Kukatpally, Afzalgunj, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Nizampet, Gachibowli, Alwal and Malkajgiri.

He alleged that the corporation had stopped constructing LIG and MIG houses since 2004. The government had already disposed of thousands of acres lands during the last nine years and a huge extent of land was also given to special economic zones, acting as a realtor.
