NEW DELHI: Two Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in connection with several cases of robbery and burglary in Delhi its neighbourhood. One of them had been arrested by the Bangladesh police earlier for alleged involvement in terror activities. The police are verifying the movements of one of the accused, Mehboob (26), a native of Dhaka in Bangladesh, on September 27 last year when a blast rocked Mehrauli in South Delhi. A team working on the Mehrauli blast case received a tip-off that a Bangladesh national allegedly involved in terror activities would come near a hotel in Lodhi Colony on Monday. A trap was laid and Mehboob and his accomplice Muneer were arrested. A country-made pistol, two live cartridges and a knife were allegedly seized from them. During interrogation, Mehboob purportedly revealed that he worked for Ismail alias Kana alias Tunda, a terrorist who was killed in an encounter with the Bangladesh police in the Kamangi Chowk area. Mehboob was also arrested by the Bangladesh police and seven bombs were seized from him. He remained in jail for several years and escaped to India on his release last year. He reached Delhi and came in contact with Muneer, a resident of Nizamuddin Basti. The two allegedly committed robberies and burglaries in Delhi and its neighbouring areas. Muneer had earlier been arrested in connection with the murder of a senior citizen, Chander Bhan, in Rajendra Nagar in 2004 during a robbery. He was given three years in jail. He again took to crime on his release.
