Kozhikode: A five-member gang looted four mobile phone shops at the Gulf Bazaar in front of the new bus station at Koyilandy early on Wednesday. The miscreants reportedly overpowered one Govindan Nair, a shop owner, who was inside a shop and tied him to a chair. They stuffed cloth in his mouth and blindfolded him around 2.30 a.m., the police said. The culprits entered other shops after breaking the shutter locks. The police are yet to assess the worth of the haul. Koyilandy sub-inspector T. Sajeevan is investing the case. Similar incidentThe incident comes close on the heels of a car robbery at Pavangadu in the Elathur police station limits, early on Tuesday. A gang of armed robbers took away a car from K.E. Aravindakshan Nair’s house after attacking security guard C. Raju. The robbers had put plaster over his mouth and tied him up. The guard had to be admitted to the Government beach hospital. Mr. Nair and his wife locked themselves in a room and informed the police control room. The robbers secured the keys of the car from the dinning table and escaped when a police team reached the spot. The car was later found abandoned on Annie Hall road. Nadakkavu Circle Inspector Jaison K. Abraham is investigating the case.
