KOZHIKODE: The situation of stocking excess kerosene at ration shops in the State would not have come had the government issued ration cards to new families and new kerosene cooking permits, according to the All Kerala Retail Ration Dealer’s Association. In a statement here on Wednesday, association district general secretary T. Muhammedali said the government had not been disbursing ration cards to new families for the last two years. Also, new kerosene cooking permit was not being disbursed for the last 12 years. For the last three months, many ration shops in the district were having 300 litres to 500 litres in stock even after monthly sales. ‘Stocking kerosene’
Mr. Muhammedali said the ration shop owners were stocking such huge volumes of kerosene so as the State did not lose the quota from the Centre. While stocking such huge volumes they were suffering financial losses. Also, the Centre had been slashing the kerosene quota to the State for the last few years. The Centre would further cut the quota if the State government was not careful on the issue, he added.
