One spray of Dithane M-45 suggested on all fruit crops to check spread of diseases NEW DELHI: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has issued advisories for horticultural farmers in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to tackle diseases, pests and physical damage to crops caused by heavy rain and floods. Farmers have been advised to drain out excess water from the field / basins and provide required support to young plants with problem of bending. Any canopy touching the ground should also be removed. One spray of Dithane M-45 (2 gm/litre) is suggested on all fruit crops, in view of possibility of spread of diseases, particularly leaf spot. PrecautionFor effective management of Sigatoka leaf spot in banana, calixin (1 millilitre/litre) along with sticker should be sprayed, the ICAR has advised. To control late blight and buck eye rot in tomato, phytophthora rot in onion and bacterial wilt/phytophthora fruit rot in brinjal, spray of Equation-pro (1 ml/l) or Acrobat (2 g/l) has been advised. For purple blotch disease of onion, Dithane M-45 or Kavach (2 g/l) should be sprayed. Anthracnose in chilli may be controlled by the spray of Topsin M (1 g/l). In black pepper and cardamom, the plant basins need to be drenched with copper oxychloride (0.2 per cent) and spray bordeaux mixture (one per cent) while in ginger and turmeric, the beds should be drenched with Mancozeb (0.31 per cent) or Metalaxyl-mancozeb (0.05 per cent).
