Chinese delegation visits schools in Madurai district

MADURAI: A Chinese delegation comprising teachers and education department officials of that country visited various schools in Madurai district on Wednesday.

They went to some schools where the activities of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) such as Activity Based Learning and Active Learning Methodology were being implemented, according to K. Sridevi, Chief Educational Officer, SSA (Madurai district).

The Chinese team went to government schools in Vadipatti area and witnessed the teaching-learning methods being followed under the SSA programmes. Ms. Sridevi said that the visiting teachers and officials saw mathematics/science classes and also a puppetry show. The delegation also went to Adi Dravidar Welfare School in Aanaikulam in the district and interacted with children.

On Thursday, the Chinese delegation would visit some schools in Thirumangalam area to observe the ABL and ALM methodologies.

Before coming to Madurai, the Chinese officials had a meeting with the Minister for School Education, Thangam Thennarasu, in Chennai on Monday where they were briefed about the SSA components and their implementation in Tamil Nadu.
