Letters to the Editor
The letter by V.K. Natraj (Oct. 26) has elicited quite a response. In 2005, the Dharam Singh government in Karnataka went out of its way to provide help to the victims of tsunami. Besides official sanction of aid, many agencies came forward to provide help. As one reader has pointed out, this is not the time to compare balance-sheets of tragedies and response. Similarly, one cannot quantify a tragedy. Karnataka has always had governments formed by parties other than those ruling at the Centre. In times of distress, it suffers. It is no secret that Karnataka lacks Tamil Nadu’s political clout. Rakesh Shetty, Mysore First as a Tamilian and then as an Indian, I too was anguished at the havoc caused by the floods in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The people of Tamil Nadu are ever willing to help but someone needs to take the lead. One hopes someone will take the lead in organising relief and rehabilitation in Mysore. I am sure the people of Tamil Nadu will respond positively. R. Gurumurthy, Chennai
