Floods: State seeks World Bank aid

HYDERABAD: The State government has decided to pose a project to the World Bank seeking financial assistance to provide comprehensive and permanent rehabilitation measures in the flood-hit districts of Kurnool, Mahabubnagar, Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda.

For preparing a detailed project report, the government on Wednesday constituted a high-level, four-member task force comprising Chief Executive Officer, Society for Elimination Poverty (Rural Development Department); Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development; Commissioner Disaster Management and Secretary (IF) Finance Department (convenor).

The task force would pursue with the Department of Economic Affairs and the World Bank to ensure that the State government’s proposal was taken up on a fast track and cleared at the earliest.

It would also identify some of the World Bank financed projects in the State from which funds could be diverted for taking up flood rehabilitation, pending the sanction of the project.

The task force has been authorised to engage experts and consultants to prepare project proposals.
