WARM WELCOME: Maldivian Defence Minister Ameen Faisal being received by MLIRC Commandant Brig. Sanjay Holey and Deputy Commissioner G. Ravishankar on his arrival in Belgaum on Thursday. Belgaum: The Maldivian Minister for Defence, Ameen Faisal, was accorded a warm reception on his arrival here on Thursday. He was received by the Indian Army’s Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) Commandant, Brigadier Sanjay Holey, and Deputy Commissioner G. Ravishankar. Mr. Faisal is here to witness the joint military exercise between the Indian Army and the army of the island nation at the MLIRC training grounds. The exercise, “EKUVERIN-09” (Exercise Lightening Strike), was inaugurated on October 19. It is seen as an important measure to step up defence cooperation between India and Maldives. The exercise will conclude on Friday. It is for the first time that an entire Maldivian squad has come here for a joint exercise. The concluding proceedings will be held at the Rohideshwar Camp. The Indian Defence Minister, A.K. Antony, had visited Maldives a couple of months ago and held discussions with the top leadership of the island nation, including the President Mohammed Nasheed, to reiterate the robust relations that exist between the two countries.
