Ethiopia attracts knitwear exporters

Staff Reporter

Tirupur: The exporters from Tirupur knitwear cluster can rely on Ethiopia as a conducive destination for investment since the African nation is blessed with surplus power, abundant English-speaking skilled workforce and opulent raw materials, according to Ethiopian Ambassador to India Gennet Zewide.

Speaking to ‘The Hindu’ after an interaction with the apparel exporters to improve ‘B2B’ relations here on Thursday, she said that setting up manufacturing base in Ethiopia would fetch any entrepreneur an opportunity to get an easy access to a wide range of markets due to bilateral tie-up the nation had with a host of nations.

Exports

“Duty-free exports can be made from Ethiopia to the United States, European Union and to the emerging markets in the 22 African nations coming under the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) trading area,” she said.
