ASC triumphs

BANGALORE: A Rawa Bengra strike in the 51st minute of play gave ASC its third consecutive Koda Cup title and fourth overall as the 21st edition of the State-ranking hockey tournament concluded at the BEL’s Dr. Ambedkar stadium here on Thursday. ASC downed a weary Canara Bank 1-0 in the final. ASC had won the tournament earlier in 2002 before this hat-trick of victories.

Canara Bank with a good number of veterans in its ranks played its postponed semifinal in the morning against Central Excise and won 2-1. And playing the final again the same afternoon was bit too much.

ASC too played the six minutes of the abandoned semifinal against HAL and won 2-1 in extra time.

Harpreet Singh’s penalty corner goal ensured ASC a final berth. The teams were tied 1-1 when the match was abandoned six minutes from close on Wednesday evening due to heavy showers.
