Special court to try Satyam case

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to immediately set up a special court headed by an additional chief metropolitan magistrate to exclusively deal Satyam scam case involving B. Ramalinga Raju and others.

At present the case is being tried by the 14th additional chief metropolitan magistrate court in Hyderabad.

This decision was taken by the Cabinet at a meeting here on Thursday following a request by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has filed a charge-sheet in the case. A senior Minister disclosed later that establishment of a special court became necessary as the 14th additional metropolitan magistrate court was overburdened with regular workload.

Sensitive case

More over, the Satyam case was a sensitive and big case with several ramifications.

The charge-sheet filed by the CBI before the 14th additional chief metropolitan magistrate court ran into 65,000 pages and cited as many as 433 witnesses 1,532 documents, 62 material objects etc. The DIG sought the special court in view of the “voluminous nature of documents and material objects”. The High Court had recommended opening of such a court after going through all these facts.
