Man acquitted of rape charge
New Delhi: A man accused of raping a minor over a period of five years has been acquitted of the charge by a Delhi court which did not find sufficient evidence to convict him.
There are material contradictions in the statements of the witnesses and lack of medical evidence so the charge of rape cannot be proved beyond reasonable doubts, Additional Sessions Judge Inder Jeet Singh said.
The court was hearing the matter in which one Hari Om Sehrawat, working as a driver with the girl’s family, had allegedly raped the employer’s daughter by taking advantage of his closeness with the family.
According to the prosecution, the ordeal of the girl started in 2002 when they went to Agra on a tour where the accused allegedly raped the girl after administering her intoxicating drinks. The accused threatened her not to disclose the incident to any member of her family.
The prosecution said the accused had sexually assaulted her till 2007 after which a complaint was filed by the girl’s family against the accused.-- PTI
