APPEAL TO PEOPLE: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan releasing the short film ’Arinjuvo’ by handing over a copy to film director B. Unnikrishnan in the city on Monday.

KOCHI: The Left Democratic Front is exploring the advantages of the visual medium to step up the election campaign of P.N. Seenulal, the party candidate for the Ernakulam Assembly byelection.

On Thursday, the party launched ‘Arinjuvo’, a short film highlighting the achievements of the LDF government. Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan released the CD of the film by handing over a copy to B. Unnikrishnan, director and general secretary of Film Employees’ Federation of Kerala.

Suraj Venjaramoodu, popular cine actor, plays the lead role of Balan, a young entrepreneur in the movie. Through him, the director (Biju) of the movie, claims that only the Left could provide a stable government in the State.

Biju Vattapara, who has penned the script for the short film, uses the character of Balan to speak volumes about the various developmental programmes initiated by the government during the last three years.

Contemporary social and political issues also come in for discussion in the film produced by the Indian Film and Television Employees Forum (CITU) for the Assembly committee of the Left Democratic Front in Ernakulam district. Balan speaks vehemently against the ASEAN agreement and says that it would affect the prospects of the common man in the State.

While discussing the issues with his wife, he brings in topics like the metro rail and Vytilla bus terminal and says that such projects will change the face of the commercial capital of the State.

Towards the end of the short film, the characters leave and visuals showing Mr. Seenulal emerge. The candidate is shown touring various parts of the district along with the party workers. People greet him and wish him all success in the byelection to be held on November 7.

M. V. Govindan Master, CPI (M) State Secretariat member; Gopi Kottamurickal, CPI (M) district secretary; MPs K. Chandran Pillai, P. Rajeev, and C. M. Dinesh Mani, MLA, were present during the release of the CD.
