Suryakumar leads from the front

MUMBAI: Captain Suryakumar Yadav (72 n.o., 71b, 8x4, 1x6) led the way as Vijay Manjrekar XI scored a six-wicket victory over Vijay Merchant XI and earned five points in the first round of the 24th Sportstar Trophy under-19 MCA selection trial tournament here on Friday.

Kaustabh Pawar’s century (104, 207b, 11x4, 1x6) for Merchant XI went in vain.

Khandu Rangnekar XI did not enforce the follow-on after getting a 272-run lead against Dattu Phadkar XI. The latter got one point for the draw, while the former took three.

The scores:

Vijay Merchant XI 121 and 206 (Kaustabh Pawar 104, Ankush Jaiswal three for 51, Sagar Gorivalle five for 51) lost to Vijay Manjrekar XI 154 and 174 for four (Siddhesh Lad 27, Sanket Yadav 42, Suryakumar Yadav 72 n.o.). Manjrekar 5, Merchant 0.
